I worked at a supermarket during the evening when I was at school at 16-18, then I went to university to learn Chemistry and got my job doing scientist after that.

While I was at school and university I had a few jobs. I worked at a shop selling things for sewing and knitting, I worked at a video store which rented out movies (you may want to ask your teacher or parents to explain that one) and I also had a job working in a shop at a nature reserve called Cape Point.

When I was in University I had a job as a science presenter at a Science Discovery Centre in Widnes (called The Catalyst) and so my first job was as a presenter more than a scientist. I am now doing a PhD, which is kind of like a job – but a bit different – so I suppose I’ve always worked in something to do with science.

I worked at Starbucks while I was studying at university but that was only part time, this is my first full time job.

It wasn’t my first job, during my undergraduate degree I had many different jobs; I used to work in a clothing store, a gambling arcade, a tanning salon, doing tours around the campus for new students.

I’m now a PhD student which means I get some money from the university to help me with day-to-day living and it pays my fees, but I also do some teaching on the side to get a bit of extra cash.

I worked at Primark whilst I was studying, but then my first full time job was in science
