Science is often about measuring things well and in a way that other people can use and talk about. Imagine trying to describe where you live but everyone is using different distances and no-one can agree how far anything is.
Well some new materials are a bit like that, people are trying to measure them but using different methods. I’ve been working on a method that everyone can use to make sure they are measuring their new materials properly.

My latest discovery is identify different genes that are involved in making a plant cell wall and how these genes can result in the plant being easy to digest (broken down) into the sugars that make up the plant cell wall. These sugars can then be used to make biofuel or other compounds such as sweetener that you find in some fizzy drinks.

I found that some of the fungi I work with the mites are actually able to detect and can avoid it, and there’s certain species of fungus that they don’t detect so well.
