My favourite flower is a rose as I like how they look – although I’m sure Caragh and Alex could give a more scientific answer!!

My favourite flower is a protea. These are flowers that are found in South Africa that have a very special adaptation in that their seeds, that are stored underground by ants, will only start to grow if there has been a fire. This then means all those plants that have been lost because of the fire aren’t truly gone forever as there are seeds that have been protected can now grow to replace them.

There’s a plant called hydrangea where is had different colour flowers depending on if the soil is acidic or alkali. If the soil is acidic the flowers are blue, if it’s alkali the flowers are red, if its neutral the flowers are purple. I think that’s pretty cool and I really like blue flowers so that’s a bonus.

Another flower I think is cool but wouldn’t want in my garden is called a corpse flower. They use flies to pollinate so instead of smelling nice they smell like rotting meat!

I really love sunflowers, they are so big and are really happy when the sun is out, their flowers look a big happy face. You cant help but smile when you see sunflowers in a garden!
